Pre-Vetting: Candidates from the new group of non-judges, nominated by the Parliament to the SCM, will be heard
The Pre-Vetting Committee will hear candidates from the new group of non-judges nominated by Parliament for membership of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) from 14 to 21 July.
Following the decision of the Legal Affairs, Appointments and Immunities Committee of 5 May 2023, the Parliament forwarded to the Pre-Vetting Committee the list of nine non-judge candidates for membership of the Superior Council of Magistracy. Among them are self-employed lawyers, lawyers and representatives of civil society and academia, who will go through the Pre-Vetting Committee's financial and ethical integrity vetting process,
The SJC currently operates with seven members: four are judges and three are non-judges. The Superior Council of Magistracy is to be composed of 12 magistrates.
