Maia Sandu, meeting with the President of the Bundestag: With Germany's support Moldova will remain part of the free world

The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, met with the President of the Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany, Bärbel Bas, who is visiting Chisinau. The head of state thanked the German authorities for the constant assistance offered to the Republic of Moldova and expressed her hope that with the support of Germany and other democratic states the Republic of Moldova will become part of the free world.

Maia Sandu noted that Germany is an important and faithful partner of the Republic of Moldova, as German investments in the country's economy provide jobs for thousands of Moldovans. Germany finances water and sewage projects in several localities in the country, as well as projects supporting small and medium-sized enterprises.

"These and many other projects mean concrete benefits for our citizens," said Maia Sandu.

The President expressed her gratitude to the German side for their support, mentioning the contribution of the Berlin authorities in strengthening the defence sector.

"Germany is helping us to strengthen the defence and home affairs sectors in order to increase the security of our citizens. I thanked President Bas for her excellent cooperation and expressed my conviction that with the support of Germany and other democratic states, our country will remain part of the free world, in order to ensure peace and well-being to its citizens," Maia Sandu wrote on her Facebook account.

Germany has contributed €40 million to the Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund from which compensation has been provided to pay energy bills.

Recently, the German authorities announced additional grants for renewable energy production and energy efficiency projects.

Germany, together with Romania and France, initiated the "Moldova Support Platform" last year to step up international assistance to Moldova, which is facing a growing wave of refugees from Ukraine and an energy crisis.

This is the second visit of a Bundestag president to Moldova since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Moldova and Germany.
