Igor Grosu gave a speech during the Helsinki Commission hearings on the situation in Moldova
The Republic of Moldova does not want to be part of structures and agreements that have no value, and our country's membership in the Commonwealth of Independent States does not benefit Moldovans. The statement was made by the President of the Parliament, Igor Grosu, who gave a speech during the Helsinki Commission hearings on the situation in the Republic of Moldova. He also welcomed the efforts of the authorities in Washington to support the consolidation of democracy in Moldova.
"We no longer want to be part of structures and agreements that have no value. Moldova's membership in the CIS structures has not brought and does not bring any benefits to Moldovans. After a founding country of the CIS, the Russian Federation, barbarously attacked another founding state, Ukraine, occupying its territories and killing its citizens, this organisation can no longer call itself a Community. Thus, during this parliamentary session, we have initiated the procedure for the withdrawal of the Republic of Moldova from the Agreement on the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States. There are a lot of agreements, together with the Government we have withdrawn from many of them and we will withdraw from everything that goes against the national interest", said Igor Grosu.
Igor Grosu also welcomed the efforts of the US Congress to support our determination to strengthen democracy, improve the living standards of the citizens of Moldova.
