MFAEI reacts to Russian authorities' statements on Stalinist deportations and the role of the church in society

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MFAEI) urges the Russian authorities to refrain from comments on church issues and the history of the Republic of Moldova. The reaction follows controversial statements made by the Russian authorities in recent days, including on Stalinist deportations and the role of the church in society.

Russian diplomatic spokeswoman Maria Zaharova expressed concern about the problems of the clergy in Moldova and said that relations between the two metropolises in our country were politicised.

At the same time, referring to the statements about deportations during the Soviet period, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration said that they are completely unacceptable and represent an attempt to distort the tragic historical events that our country went through.

The Russian Embassy in Chisinau expressed its disturbance at the exhibition "Bessarabians in the Gulag" in PMAN. The institution described the event as "Russophobia" and said that the Chisinau authorities denigrate the Red Army soldiers.
