Joe Biden expects Moscow to negotiate in wake of Ukrainian counter-offensive
Russian President Vladimir Putin "has already lost the war" in Ukraine, his US counterpart Joe Biden said Thursday, saying he expects Moscow to be pushed to negotiate by the Ukrainian counter-offensive, AFP reports.
"Putin has already lost the war," Biden told a news conference in Helsinki. "There is no possibility for him to win the war in Ukraine," the White House leader added.
"I hope, it is my expectation, that Ukraine will make significant progress in its offensive and that this will lead to a negotiated settlement at some point," Biden added.
The US leader also said that Russian President Vladimir Putin will eventually decide that it is not in Russia's interest to continue the war.
In the meantime, however, "no one can join NATO during a war" because that would guarantee a third world war, Biden stressed, according to Reuters.
