Alexandru Musteata: The situation on the left of the Nistru is calm

The situation on the territory to the left of the Nistru is calm and there are no security risks expected in the coming months, said the head of the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS), Alexandru Musteata, in a program on TVR Moldova.

The official called for calm to the citizens. He also said that the SIS is monitoring everything that happens in Ukraine and some risk analysis is being done for next year, stating that the war in Ukraine will continue in 2023 as the Russian Federation will try a new offensive towards the west. "The information held by the SIS together with its partners indicates that in 2023 we can expect with a high probability a new offensive on the territory of Ukraine to the West. In the year 2023, unfortunately, the war remains the biggest risk for the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine. The Transnistrian region will remain a rather calm point considering the situation in the region. Between both sides there is dialogue, that is quite important. Our stake shows that in Transnistria, even if Russian military forces are present, illegally stationed, the situation remains quite calm at the moment and our prediction is that it will be so for several months to come. In Transnistria the situation is quite calm, what I stated is related to how the situation could develop on the military front, conventionally there in Ukraine", declared Alexandru Musteata. We remind you that earlier the media reported on the fact that Alexandru Musteata, in an interview for TVR Moldova, said that the objective of the Russian Federation to create a land corridor to the Transnistrian region is still valid today. According to him, a new Russian offensive in this direction could take place in 2023. He also said that several scenarios are being analyzed in which Moscow would also try a land invasion through the north of Ukraine, towards the Republic of Moldova, but everything depends on the evolution the war in the neighboring state.
