Wizz Air will reduce the number of flights from Romania. The airline's explanation

Wizz Air will reduce the number of flights from Romania and other countries in August, officials say. According to them, the measure is mainly aimed at destinations where the company has more flights and is necessary to optimise the aviation market. On the other hand, Romeo Vatră, general director of Iasi Airport, says that he has not yet received any official information on this subject and stressed that the partnership with Wizz Air in Iasi has the potential to develop.

The decision to reduce the frequency of flights in August was taken to minimise the risk of cancelling flights at the last minute, so that people could find new ones, Valeria Bragarenco, director of communications at Wizz Air, told Radio Moldova in an interview. She also pointed out that among the reasons would be strikes by airline operators and aviation staff in various countries.

"We would like to confirm, indeed, that this decision is already taken in order to focus on the flights with the highest demand and to minimize the passenger's time to wait during a flight delay or to minimize, to a large extent, cancellations during summer time. Summer is quite a difficult season, because many more companies fly and we are also not immune, for example, to strikes that happen in the countries where we land or take off and for this reason we decided to reduce our flight frequencies, not only from Romania but also from other countries. Affected customers can opt for a refund of 120 percent of the fare they paid and these credits can be used later to purchase other tickets."

In a commentary for our radio station, Romeo Vatră, general director of Iasi Airport, says that there are premises for expanding the collaboration between the institution he heads and Wizz Air, including increasing the number of aircraft operated at Iasi airport.

"We as airports cannot influence the decisions that these companies take. We have not received any official notification in this regard. There will probably be some one-off actions and passengers will be informed if necessary. I don't know what the extent of this action will be. Yesterday I had a meeting with a top delegation and there are very real, very concrete premises for the development of this partnership, which shows that Iași Airport is an airport where Wizz Air wants to develop air operations, not reduce them."

In March this year, the Hungarian company Wizz Air suspended all its flights from Chișinău International Airport citing airspace security reasons. At that time, Wizz Air informed that it would offer additional flights from Iasi, which could help Moldovan citizens. As a result of this decision, the number of Moldovan passengers choosing to fly from Iasi has increased by 30 percent.

Recently, the interim administrator of Chisinau International Airport, Constantin Vozian, said on a TV show that the return of the low-cost airline Wizz Air to our country's airport will certainly take place, but for the time being it is not known when.
