Foreign Ministry advises Moldovans not to travel to Ukrainian territories temporarily occupied by Russia
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration reiterated on Friday, July 21, the appeal to Moldovan citizens to refrain from travelling to all Ukrainian territories temporarily occupied by the Russian Federation in the Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporozhye, Herson regions and the Crimean Peninsula. The announcement was made in the context of the Russian Federation's war of aggression against Ukraine.
"For further information and consular assistance, you can contact the Call Centre, which can be reached on 0 80 090 990 - free of charge from a landline from any location in the Republic of Moldova or +373 22 23 20 02. Outside the opening hours, you can send a message: by email to [email protected] or on the Facebook page of the Call Centre and the Facebook page of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration," reads the MFAEI press release.
MFAEI appeals to Moldovan citizens to constantly inform themselves from reliable sources, remain cautious and be able to promptly adjust their travel plans. It also recommends maintaining contact with the Ukrainian embassy or consulate general.
"These travel advisories are valid until further information and may be subject to change as the situation evolves."
At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Chisinau reiterates its position of non-recognition of the illegal annexation by the Russian Federation of all Ukrainian regions, including the Crimean Peninsula.
"They remain under international law integral parts of Ukraine and are treated as temporarily occupied territories".
Therefore, MFAEI says, the diplomatic mission and consular office of the Republic of Moldova are "extremely limited in their ability to provide consular assistance and protection to citizens in the regions listed above".
