Oazu Nantoi: There are prerequisites for the peaceful reintegration of the country
The Transnistrian region is economically dependent on the right side of the Nistru, a fact that creates conditions for the peaceful reintegration of the country. The statement was made by the PAS deputy, Oazu Nantoi, on a TVR Moldova show. He reiterated that currently the 5+2 negotiation format has lost its functionality, as two of the states participating in the discussions, Russia and Ukraine, are in a state of war.
"The situation changed dramatically after the annexation of Crimea. It is obvious that Ukraine will not agree to sit at any negotiating table with the Russian Federation in any format. But the phenomenon we call the Transnistrian conflict cannot be resolved through negotiations. A completely different approach is required. Peaceful. When you look at the map, you see that the so-called Transnistria is a narrow strip of land, which economically depends one hundred percent on the Republic of Moldova. And it is blocked by Ukraine", declared Oazu Nantoi.
We remind that the 5+2 format includes Chisinau and Tiraspol as parties involved in the conflict. The OSCE, the Russian Federation and Ukraine have the status of mediators, and the European Union and the USA - observers. Since the beginning of the war in the neighboring country, the talks between Chisinau and Tiraspol have been held in the 1+1 format.
