Ukraine to submit report to Pentagon on use of cluster munitions

Ukraine will this week submit to the US a report on the use of cluster munitions, which were provided to the Armed Forces of Ukraine in one of the latest military aid packages. The announcement was made by Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksiy Reznikov in an interview with CNN.

"We will report the results of the use. I think next week I will have the first report and I will share it with my partners in the Pentagon."

According to Reznikov, the report is part of an agreement with the Pentagon on the transfer of cluster munitions.

The US announced an $800 million military aid package for Ukraine on 7 July, including cluster munitions for the first time.

Washington's aid drew criticism from non-governmental organisations and upset several European countries and Canada because cluster munitions are considered more dangerous for civilians.

US President Joe Biden admitted that it was not easy for him to make the decision to approve the transfer of cluster munitions to Ukraine, but he considers it the right one given the shortage of artillery shells.
