The number of Ukrainian citizens taking refuge in the Republic of Moldova is increasing

The number of Ukrainian citizens taking refuge in the Republic of Moldova is increasing after Russia attacked Ukraine's energy infrastructure last week, representatives from the Migration and Asylum Bureau told Radio Moldova.

Left in the dark, cold and under the constant threat of bombs destroying the energy infrastructure, Ukrainians are once again starting to leave for neighboring countries. Only during the past week, more than 1,200 Ukrainian citizens took refuge in our country, compared to other weeks when only 155 Ukrainian refugees were registered, the spokesperson of the Migration and Asylum Bureau, Vera Valuța, told Radio Moldova.

"In total, 1,204 people increased in the Republic of Moldova. The increase in the number of children is also attested. We have 393 more children, compared to last week", stated Vera Valuta.

Last week, 832 Ukrainian children were enrolled in educational institutions in the capital, i.e. four more than during November 14-20, said the head of the General Directorate of Education, Andrei Pavaloi, during the weekly meeting of Chisinau city hall services.

"530 are students in 42 primary and secondary education institutions, with one more child compared to the previous week, and 302 preschoolers enrolled in 59 early education institutions, with three more children compared to the previous week. Among the students who attend educational institutions, 149 have student status, and 381 have audience status", says Andrei Pavaloi.

According to Digi24, the number of those leaving for Romania also increases from day to day. In just 24 hours, nearly 8,300 Ukrainians crossed the Prut. Customs systems are often blocked by power outages. For the same reason, there are kilometer-long queues of TIRs on the way out.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, there are currently about 80,000 Ukrainian citizens on the territory of our country.
