President of Romania and the president of Portugal discussed the importance of the European path of the Republic of Moldova

Regional security, including the situation in the Republic of Moldova and the importance of its European course, were mentioned by Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, who is visiting Romania. The official, together with the Romanian president Klaus Iohannis, visited the Caracal military base.

A contingent of Portuguese soldiers is stationed in Romania, but the two countries also cooperated before the start of the war in Ukraine, by purchasing weapons and military aircraft. The two presidents also talked about regional security, including the Republic of Moldova and the importance of its European path. President Iohannis thanked the Portuguese military and Portugal. "We are grateful that Portugal, an ally on the Southern Flank, reconfirms allied unity and the belief that our common defense must be strengthened in all dimensions and directions. Thank you, Mr. President, for the presence of the Portuguese military and for the excellent cooperation for the modernization of the Romanian Air Force", said Klaus Iohannis. The Romanian president also invoked the Republic of Moldova in his speech. Romania supports the European path of the Republic of Moldova, said the head of state. Meanwhile, Romania continued the acquisition of military equipment and technology. A contract was signed with an Israeli company for the supply of drones. The agreement also obliges the company to achieve, at the level of some economic operators in the defense industry in Romania, a capacity for production, integration, testing and maintenance in the military field for the delivered systems.
