The Romanian government approved the financing for the construction of the road bridge over the Prut, from Ungheni. Shortly, the tender procedure for the execution of the works will begin, announced the state secretary of the Romanian Ministry of Transport Irinel Ionel Scriosteanu. The official stated that the length of the bridge would be about 261 meters and 13 meters wide.

There will also be a border crossing control point, which will be equipped with parking lots for large vehicles, passenger cars and closed spaces for the thorough checking of cars and firearms. "The Ungheni Bridge is a necessity for both Romania and Moldova, the purpose of which is to support economic, social and fraternal relations between the two sides. It will help improve Romania's economic competitiveness by developing the transport infrastructure, serving the international transit traffic of goods and people", said Irinel Ionel Scriosteanu. Also, the official claims, it will interconnect the road infrastructures between both states: the Târgu Mureș - Iași - Ungheni highway - the state border (on the territory of Romania) and the national road R1 Chișinău - Ungheni - the border with Romania (on the territory of the Republic of Moldova). The total cost of the project exceeds 16 million euros.
