New external support for energy security. Secretary of State: "We need to buy gas when it is cheaper"
The Republic of Moldova will benefit from additional financial assistance to ensure energy security. The Government of Norway will provide our country with a €35 million grant through the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). At the same time, the Republic of Moldova will access a €35 million loan from the EBRD to purchase volumes of natural gas for the cold season, said Cristina Pereteatcu, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Energy.
"It is very important, it is a solution to purchase volumes of gas and to buy from several suppliers in the warm period of the year. The direct beneficiaries of the project will be the consumers of natural gas in the Republic of Moldova, thus making it possible to lower the prices of natural gas purchased on the free market. By lowering the costs, Energocom will conclude this contract with the EBRD. We have to buy gas when it is cheaper", remarked Cristina Pereteatcu.
On Friday, the members of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy and European Integration approved the consultative opinion on the opening of negotiations on the amendment of the Loan Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. It should be recalled that in 2022, the Republic of Moldova signed a loan agreement with the EBRD for the implementation of the "Security of Natural Gas Supply" project, which provides for the allocation of €300 million euro in two tranches.
