EU Security Hub: One year of activity. The Republic of Moldova has confirmed its ability to contribute to strengthening Europe's security belt

The Republic of Moldova has confirmed its ability to contribute to strengthening Europe's security belt, says European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson, one year after the establishment of the European Union Security HUB.

"One year ago, EU states agreed to join forces to counter common security threats to the illegal trafficking of arms, drugs and human beings by sharing the expertise of security states across Europe, including FRONTEX for border management and Europol, as well as financial support. The Security Hub has demonstrated its success. The Hub puts Moldova at the heart of Europe, helping to speed up the country's accession to the European Union," said Ylva Johansson.

During this year of activity of the EU Security HUB, the Republic of Moldova has contributed to adjusting the security architecture in line with the latest developments in cross-border crime and hybrid threats, said Minister of Interior Affairs Adrian Efros.

"The HUB is the basic tool for analysis and expertise, and the products generated are highly appreciated by colleagues in the European Union. With this tool, the Republic of Moldova, through the Ministry of Interior Affairs, is no longer just a consumer of security, but also a supplier", said Adrian Efros.

The European Union implicitly contributes to strengthening overall regional security, said Daniel-Marius Staicu, Director of the Service for the Prevention and Combating of Money Laundering.

"By addressing these security challenges, Moldova is contributing to creating a more stable and secure region HUB support is also about deeper cooperation and information exchange. This collaboration allows for the exchange of best practices, expertise and information in the field of internal security and border management," said Daniel-Marius Staicu.

The agreement on the establishment of the European Security Hub in Chisinau was signed in Prague in July 2022, as a tool to strengthen security and border management in the context of the Russian war in Ukraine.
