After a failed attempt, the People's Assembly of Gagauzia will decide next week whether to approve the composition of the new Executive Committee
In Comrat, several supporters of the former "Șor" party organised a protest action during a meeting of the People's Assembly. The protesters demanded the approval of the new composition of the executive committee and the resignation of the chairman of the Gagauz People's Assembly, Dimitri Constantinov. At the same time, the local MPs claim that they have 45 days from the swearing in of the new Bashkan to vote on the new Executive Committee in Comrat.
The approval of the new composition of the Executive Committee headed by Bashkan Evghenia Gutul was not on today's agenda of the Gagauz People's Assembly. Deputy Alexander Dulger asked to include it additionally, but the majority of local deputies voted against. This provoked outrage from Evghenia Guțul's team and her supporters, who came to the rally. Contacted by Radio Moldova, the deputy chairman of the Gagauz People's Assembly, Gheorghe Leichu said that since the new Bashkan was sworn in, local deputies have 45 days to vote on the new Executive Committee in Comrat.
"Yesterday the Bashkan of Gagauzia Evghenia Gutu presented the new composition of the Executive Committee. That means we have 45 days to make a decision. The local deputies have the right once to exclude this item from the agenda. If the next time this topic is not included on the agenda, then the Bashkan has the right to gather the Gagauz people. We have the right to consult for 45 days, but we will take a decision next week."
According to Gagauz law, in order to approve the composition of the executive committee, all candidates must pass a test of knowledge of the Gagauz language, which was not done. However, Bashkan Evghenia Guțul said there was no problem with this.
Representatives of the new Executive Committee must be reinforced by the relevant commission, including the linguistic commission as required by local law, and by this protest, representatives of the unconstitutional Șor party have shown that they do not take into account legal procedures, Comrat journalist Mihail Sirkeli told our radio station.
Yesterday in Comrat the new composition of the executive committee was presented. Instead of the Bashkan, Ilan Shor, who is sentenced to 15 years in prison, did it from the screen. According to the procedure, the members of the executive committee will be able to take office after they have been reinforced by the People's Assembly of Gagauzia.
