29 years since the adoption of the Constitution of Moldova: People consider some changes necessary to ensure a better life

Today marks the 29th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, which came into force on 27 August 1994. The supreme law states that the Republic of Moldova is a sovereign, independent, unitary and indivisible state.

Most Moldovans believe that the supreme law of the Republic of Moldova requires some changes. What people expect from the constitution is to ensure a better life, social reforms and an improved health system. Other citizens say we have good laws, but they are not respected.

"There are some points that should be changed, in the interest of the people, in terms of health." "New articles need to be added to the Constitution that are in line with today's reality, there are many problems that need to be solved. As we are joining the EU, the legislation needs to be improved." "I think it needs more work". "The Constitution is good, but it is not respected".

The constitution is a fundamental act of any society. There are no ineffective constitutions and everything depends on those who manage the supreme law in the state, former Constitutional Court judge Alexandru Tanase told Radio Moldova.

"There are no perfect constitutions, just as there are no constitutions that have no gaps. Our Constitution is no exception. Even if we admit articles that generate different interpretations, there is the Constitutional Court that has the mission to answer these questions and through its decisions to harmonize the texts of the Constitution".

The Constitution of the Republic of Moldova is the supreme and principal law of the Republic of Moldova and of the state society. The Constitution determines the general principles of society, human rights and duties. It was adopted on 29 July 1994.
