A contingent of 40 firefighters left for the south of France

40 Romanian firefighters left on Sunday for the south of France, where they will stay until the middle of August, going to act to extinguish vegetation fires, which are very frequent in that area. It is about a so-called prepositioning of firefighters specialized in extinguishing forest fires, Radio Romania News reports.

The Romanian detachment left Arad on Sunday with intervention vehicles, and if necessary, at the request of the French authorities, it will be possible to supplement the equipment and personnel through the European civil protection mechanism. The Secretary of State in the Ministry of the Interior, Dr. Raed Arafat, explained what is the prepositioning of the intervention forces in areas with a high risk of vegetation fires.

"In areas of major risk, where it is known that international interventions have been requested several times, there should be a number of teams, smaller in number, that supplement the forces in that country and wait if something happens. In Greece we had 40 people in prepositioning and after that we sent two contingents in a row, when the bigger fires appeared - also around Athens and especially in Rhodes - and we now have around 38 people left at Athens and they will leave on August 1 back home. And the difference of the firefighters who are now in Greece, about 90, will return on August 4 from Rhodes, if the tactical situation does not change now", said Raed Arafat.
