A coach with Moldovan passengers on board caught fire in Austria. Foreign Ministry's clarification
A coach caught fire yesterday in Austria. It was carrying Romanian and Moldovan passengers, says the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration. The source notes that all passengers were evacuated without anyone being injured.
"The Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Vienna has been informed about an accident on the territory of the Republic of Austria (Vienna ring motorway - A21, in the direction of Vösendorf) involving a coach with Romanian number plates, on board of which 60 persons, Moldovan and Romanian citizens, were on fire. It was heading from Spain to Romania and the Republic of Moldova".
According to preliminary information provided by the police, the coach is registered with Romanian plates and its trailer with Moldovan plates. The coach caught fire at 14:00 on 31 July and was destroyed by the flames in about 10 minutes, the cause of which is unclear, while the trailer was uncoupled from the coach in time and was not engulfed in flames.
The passengers were escorted by police to a petrol station near the scene of the incident and were waiting for transport to continue their journey to Romania and the Republic of Moldova.
The MFAIE is to identify whether the passengers have travel documents, if they have not been damaged, so that they can continue on to their final destination. If not, travel documents will be drawn up and handed to Moldovan citizens, the institution said.
