The Supreme Court of Justice overturned several decisions of the Pre-Vetting Commission. Candidates to be re-evaluated
Vitalie Codreanu and Anatolie Gîrbu, candidates for membership of the High Council of Prosecutors, and Ion Chirtoaca, Valentin Caisîn, Stanislav Sorbalo, Veronica Cupcea, Angela Popil and Vitalie Stratan, candidates for membership of the High Council of Magistrates, are to be re-evaluated by the Independent Commission for the Evaluation of the Integrity of Candidates for Membership of the Self-Governing Bodies of Judges and Prosecutors.
The Pre-Vetting Commission held the first round of hearings for candidates for membership of the High Council of Prosecutors (HCC) in April.
At the end of July, the Commission finalised the extraordinary evaluation process of the 18 candidates registered in the competition for membership of the main self-administrative body of prosecutors - the High Council of Prosecutors (HCC).
According to the Commission, 67 candidates for positions in the self-administrative bodies of judges and prosecutors participated in the extraordinary evaluation process to determine their eligibility for membership of the Superior Council of Magistrates (SCM) or the Superior Council of Prosecutors (SCP). The Commission completed the evaluation of 59 of the 67 candidates and issued almost 90 percent of the total number of decisions.
Out of 59 decisions sent to candidates by 27 July 2023, all promotion decisions have been published on the Commission's website, i.e. 16 decisions, and out of 43 candidates who received non-promotion decisions, only 28 accepted publication.
By 27 July 2023, 18 SCM candidates among judges, 4 non-judges and 5 SCP prosecutor candidates, who did not pass the assessment, have challenged the decisions of the Pre-Vetting Commission at the Supreme Court of Justice. In two of these cases, the Court upheld the decisions of the Pre-Vetting Commission.
