The Environmental Protection Inspectorate announces the results of the investigation into the case of buried fuel oil on Termoelectrica's territory. It was found that the level of petroleum product content in the samples examined exceeded the established maximum allowable concentration (MAC) by approximately 66 times, being 6,657.0 and 6,567.2 mg/kg of petroleum product.

Also, according to the Environmental Inspectorate, Termoelectrica violated the provisions of the Law on Environmental Protection and the Land Code of the Republic of Moldova.

"The environmental protection bodies will draw up minutes for both the enterprise and its responsible persons," the institution reports.

Following the control, "Termoelectrica" is obliged to remove the cause of soil pollution within 30 working days.

The damage caused to soil resources has been assessed and will be paid by Termoelectrica in accordance with the law.

The leader of Our Party, Renato Usatii, on July 21, said that "Termoelectrica" had allegedly purchased from public money, expensive and poor quality fuel oil, which was buried on the territory of Termoelectrica and that this happened in the autumn of 2022. In this regard, the politician also presented more video evidence.

On July 28, during the government meeting, Prime Minister Dorin Recean asked for the resignation of Termoelectrica management. According to the Chief Executive, the situation is unacceptable. Firstly, said Dorin Recean, the burial of fuel oil is damaging the environment, and secondly, it shows an unprofessional management of Termoelectrica.

Shortly afterwards, the former interim general director of Termoelectrica SA, Vasile Leu, resigned and Iurie Razlovan was appointed in his place and said that the buried fuel oil incident would be investigated.
