Preparing for the cold season! Energocom has bought about 300 million cubic metres of gas

Energocom has bought about 300 million cubic metres of gas for both current consumption and storage, the company announced in a release. The average purchase price is about $400 per thousand m3.

"At this price, the costs of transportation to storage, injection, storage, extraction and transportation to Moldova will be added, when the gas is needed."

Based on the limited capacity to transport gas to storage, different delivery points were selected and the most financially advantageous solutions were identified," Energocom says.

More than 10 companies submitted bids in the tenders and Energocom SA signed contracts with 7 entities.

"In order to supplement the total natural gas consumption needs forecast for the cold season 2023-2024, the following tenders will be carried out by SA Energocom from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) credit, within the framework of the implementation of the project "Security of natural gas supply", in accordance with the provisions of the Regulation approved in this regard by the EBRD".

Eleven applications have been submitted for this third phase of the EBRD loan and are currently being assessed by the tender committee. The final pre-qualification decision of the participating companies will be taken by the EBRD.

In May, Energocom announced that it still has about 150 million cubic meters of natural gas in stock out of the total 600 million purchased in 2022 for the cold season.

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the Russian Federation has reduced natural gas supplies to our country. In order to ensure the creation and maintenance of security stocks and the provision of stored natural gas, the Joint Stock Company "Energocom" concludes the necessary agreements and contracts with the operators of storage facilities.

The natural gas is stored in storage facilities in Ukraine and Romania. Household consumers currently pay 18.06 lei per cubic metre, including VAT.
