Lithuanian journalist: NATO does not insist on the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the Alliance, but helps it strengthen its defense capacity
The countries that are part of the North Atlantic Alliance, also members of the European Union, support the Republic of Moldova in the process of European integration, but they also cooperate on the NATO dimension, thus helping to strengthen their defense capabilities, said for Moldova 1 TV, the editor-in-chief of "The Lithuania Tribune", Ruslanas Irzikevicius. The Lithuanian journalist also said that, in addition to the financial means announced at the NATO Summit in Vilnius on July 11-12, our country will also be supported bilaterally.
"The accession to the North Atlantic structures is a complex and, at the same time, long-term process. What is important for the Republic of Moldova now is the determination with which it got involved in this process, the firm determination to travel this way to join the European democracies. That is why, the Western partners support the Republic of Moldova in achieving this goal. NATO does not insist on joining the Alliance, respects its sovereignty and neutrality, but helps it strengthen its defense capacity. At the Vilnius Summit, NATO, as an organization, reiterated this support, implicitly for the implementation of the necessary reforms in the European integration process", said Ruslanas Irzikevicius.
We remind you that, at the NATO Summit held in July in Vilnius, the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, announced a new financial contribution to the NATO fund for the Republic of Moldova. Moreover, the Alliance requested Russia to withdraw its forces stationed in the Transnistrian region.
