CEC: 898 mayors and 11,058 local councilors will be elected at the local general elections

In the local general elections of November 5, 2023, 898 mayors and 11,058 local councilors will be elected, the Central Electoral Commission announces. There will be 51 councilors in the Chisinau Municipal Council, and 35 in the Bălți municipality, these being the largest localities in the country.

898 mayors and 11,058 local councilors will be elected in the autumn election. Of these, 9,972 will work in village and town councils, and 1,086 in district and municipal councils.

According to the legislation, the number of mandates of local councilors will be based on the number of inhabitants of the administrative-territorial units certified, on January 1, in the State Population Register.

Thus, two of the 32 district councils will each have 35 mandates. Another 20 - 33 each, and in 10 districts there will be 27 councilors each. 51 councilors will be active in the municipality of Chisinau and 35 in Bălți.

Also, 9972 local councilor mandates will be assigned to village and city councils.

We remind that about 3.3 million voters are registered in the State Register of Voters. Most of them, over 650 thousand, are in the municipality of Chisinau, and the fewest are registered in Basarabeasca, Dubăsari and Dondușeni districts, where the number of citizens with the right to vote reaches up to 30 thousand. We remind you that yesterday, the electoral period began for the general local elections on November 5.
