Moldova's education system needs more young teachers, says minister
About 30% of the teachers in Moldova's education system are retired, and this percentage is expected to increase in the coming years, Education and Research Minister Dan Perciun said in an interview with agora.md. The official said that attracting young specialists in education is a pressing need.
"About 25-30% are retired. That's why we have set as a priority for next year to double the number of young graduates in pedagogy who choose to go to school. The demographic trend is such that the percentage of retirees will increase in the coming years. We are very grateful to the teachers that despite a certain age they find the energy and dedication to continue to teach the young generations. Obviously, there will come a time when we have to find younger teachers. If we do not focus on this now, in a few years the deficit will be so great that we will not cover the hole that will form in any way."
Previously, Dan Perciun said that, in order to create conditions for teachers in the system, the relevant ministry intends to increase the specific salary increases by 10%, as well as to cover the costs of continuing education for teachers.
At the same time, the Ministry of Education aims to increase the number of graduates of pedagogical faculties, who go into the education system up to 500 people per year.
