Anti Corruption Prosecutor's Office disagrees with judges' decision to free Vladimir Andronachi

The Head of the Anti Corruption Prosecutor's Office, Veronica Dragalin, has responded to the release from house arrest of former MP Vladimir Andronachi on "personal guarantees" worth 22,000 lei, provided by two mayors from Cahul district, a religious leader, and a civilian. He is charged on several counts in the criminal cases - Bank Fraud and Metalferos. Current legislation does not allow the appeal of the decision in court.

The Head of the Anti Corruption Prosecutor's Office, Veronica Dragalin, announced that prosecutors do not agree with the judges' decision to release Vladimir Andronachi from house arrest on "personal guarantees".

"We do not consider this decision to be correct. From our point of view, as prosecutors, we do not consider this decision to be correct. 22,000 lei is not a guarantee that will prevent this person from fleeing the country, but this is the judge's decision and we will respect it because that's how the law works. There have been several decisions with which we, as prosecutors, do not agree, but the law does not allow us to appeal these decisions to a hierarchical judge," Veronica Dragalin said.

She pointed out that the Anti Corruption Prosecutor's Office did not agree either with the fact that all the hearings in the Andronachi case are held behind closed doors.

On August 11, Vladimir Andronachi was released from house arrest on "personal guarantee" by the Chisinau Court, Buiucani branch.

Former MP Vladimir Andronachi, considered to be close to the former leader of the Democratic Party Vladimir Plahotniuc, was detained in November 2022 in Ukraine and extradited to the border police of the Republic of Moldova on the same day. Two arrest warrants were issued in his name in two separate criminal cases - "Bank Fraud" and "Metalferos".

Vladimir Andronachi is accused of creating an organised criminal group, fraud, and money laundering on a large scale. He is also accused of, along with other persons, simulating the conclusion of an investment contract in the reconstruction of a property with the Savings Bank. Thus, they would have withdrawn 32 million lei from the bank's accounts.

Former MP Vladimir Andronachi pleads not guilty. Previously, he stated that he was charged on political orders.
