Moldova to make rail passenger transport more accessible for people with disabilities

Rail passenger transport in Moldova is to become more attractive and comfortable for people with disabilities, according to a regulation approved by the government. Special equipment will be installed on trains for these categories of people.

In addition, people with reduced mobility will be able to have a companion who will travel absolutely free, underlined Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Andrei Spînu.

"In other words, it is a project that brings us closer to the regulations of the European Union. One of the provisions of this regulation is the creation of conditions for access and availability of equipment on board for people with disabilities and people with reduced mobility. The established regulations will guarantee passengers personal safety, non-discrimination, quality travel conditions, insurance of baggage and accompanied goods, access to accurate and timely information," said Andrei Spînu.

Andrei Spînu noted that the Regulation also establishes mechanisms for assistance and compensation provided by railway operators for travellers who are faced with cancellations or delays. Thus, passengers will benefit from free meals and drinks, and in the event of a railway service interruption, they will be provided with alternative transport services.
