Devastating Hawaii wildfire kills over 100 people

The death toll from a wildfire that devastated the town of Lahaina on the Hawaiian island of Maui has now exceeded 100, according to the state's governor, Agerpres.ro reports.

"There have been 101 lives lost," Governor Josh Green said in a televised address on Tuesday. "This is a tragedy of unspeakable proportions."

The fire, which broke out on Saturday, destroyed thousands of buildings and left many people homeless. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The governor has warned that the death toll could rise further as search and rescue teams continue to comb through the rubble.

Relatives of the missing are being advised to take a DNA test to help identify the bodies.

The wildfire is the deadliest in Hawaii's history. It is also one of the most destructive, having caused an estimated $1 billion in damage.
