Law on external evaluation of judges and prosecutors returned to Parliament for review
Moldovan President Maia Sandu has returned the law on the external evaluation of judges and prosecutors, approved at the end of July by the parliamentary majority of the Action and Solidarity Party, to Parliament for review.
The law was returned to parliament for technical and procedural changes, according to PAS deputy Vasile Grădinaru. The changes will be made to ensure that the evaluation commission has the right to challenge the decisions of the Superior Council of Magistrates or the Superior Council of Prosecutors on the promotion or non-promotion of the evaluation.
The legislature adopted the draft law on the external evaluation of judges and prosecutors on July 31, in the second reading, with the vote of 55 deputies. According to the law, the ethical and financial integrity filter will be passed by about 140 judges and over 220 prosecutors in key positions.
The justice reform, launched by the authorities in December 2021, is one of the conditions for the start of negotiations on Moldova's accession to the European Union.
