Sweden raises terror alert level to 4

Sweden has raised its terror alert level from 3 to 4, the second-highest level, in response to a recent increase in threats, according to unnamed sources cited by Reuters.

The new level assumes the presence of a concrete threat, and comes after a series of protests in Sweden and Denmark in which copies of the Muslim holy Koran have been burned or destroyed. These incidents have provoked anger in Muslim countries, as well as fears of attacks in host countries.

In 2017, an Uzbek immigrant who swore allegiance to the Islamic State group drove a truck into passers-by on a busy Stockholm street, killing five people.
