Nearly 400 former patent holders switch to self-employment
The number of former patent holders who have switched to the new activity regime has increased by nearly 400 in the past week, according to the Minister of Economy, Dumitru Alaiba.
Alaiba said that the latest figures show that 2,227 new residents have switched to self-employment, which is well over 50% compliance. He added that the highest rates of compliance are in Anenii Noi (75%), Cahul (70%), Cimislia (61%), Criuleni (75%), and Chisinau (54%).
The minister said that the government is working with the State Tax Service to encourage more former patent holders to switch to self-employment. He stressed that this is an attractive scheme for those who want to open a business, as it gives them the possibility of accessing grants from the ODA.
The validity of the patents expired on July 1. In recent years, the authorities have promised several times to ban the patent system and force traders to adopt the new form of activity, which was introduced in 2017.
