Netherlands, Denmark to deliver 61 F-16s to Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday evening welcomed the "historic" decision by the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Denmark to deliver a total of 61 US F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, reported by Agerpres.ro
"Our fighters will receive 42 super fighter jets" from the Netherlands, Zelensky tweeted, thanking Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.
These 42 planes are in addition to the 19 announced by Denmark. The two countries, which received the Ukrainian president on surprise visits, have pledged to deliver F-16s to Kiev once Ukrainian pilots are trained.
Zelensky arrived at Skrydstrup base in southern Denmark on Sunday afternoon, two days after the United States gave the green light for the Netherlands and Denmark to send US F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.
The delivery of the F-16s is a major boost for Ukraine's air force, which has been struggling to defend against Russian airstrikes. The jets are expected to help Ukraine to regain control of the skies and to launch offensive operations against Russian forces.
