Serbia demands explanation from Moldova over Bregović ban

The Serbian Foreign Ministry has demanded an explanation from the Moldovan Foreign Ministry after the refusal to allow the artist Goran Bregović to enter the country last Sunday.

Serbia's Foreign Minister Ivica Dačić said that the decision was "not in line with the traditional friendly relations" between the two countries and that it had provoked "very negative reactions" from the Serbian public.

Dačić also pointed out that Bregović has performed all over the world and has never had any problems entering any other country.

The Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration said that it is cooperating with the Serbian Foreign Ministry and will issue a statement later if necessary.

Goran Bregović is a 73-year-old Serbian singer and composer who is known for his nostalgic music about the former Yugoslavia. He has also been outspoken in his support for the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The Moldovan authorities have said that they do not want public figures who "call for war, discord and hatred" to enter the country.
