Crimea Platform aims to increase international pressure on Russia
Ukraine is holding the third edition of the Crimea Platform Summit today, an international forum aimed at coordinating efforts to liberate the Crimean Peninsula, which was illegally annexed by Russia in 2014.
This year, the summit will focus on the post-war reconstruction of Crimea and Ukraine humanitarian policy in the peninsula. Ukrainian First Deputy Foreign Minister Emine Dzhaparova said that the second and third panel discussions will be devoted to these topics.
"Unfortunately, we all witnessed the demographic changes on the peninsula when hundreds of thousands of Russian citizens were moved to Crimea, when our citizens were forcibly given Russian passports," said Dzhaparova. "These are a wide range of questions that we, as a state, have to answer."
The summit is expected to be attended by representatives from over 60 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union. Moldova will be represented by Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
The summit is scheduled to start at 5:00 PM local time. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to deliver a speech.
The Crimea Platform was launched by Ukraine in 2021. The goal of the platform is to increase the effectiveness of the international response to the occupation of Crimea, security threats, and international pressure on the Russian Federation. Another goal of the platform is the liberation of Crimea and its return to Ukrainian control.
