Ukraine and Moldova simplify railway freight transit
Ukraine and Moldova have simplified the procedures for the transit of goods by rail. The Ukrainian parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, ratified amendments to the agreement between the two countries on the operation of railway transport on Thursday.
The amendments, which will come into force on September 1, 2023, will allow transit trains to pass through the Etulia-Reni-Giurgiulești section without having to stop in Reni for three days.
The changes are expected to significantly accelerate and increase the volume of rail freight transport between Ukraine and Moldova, as well as increase the export potential of the ports on the Danube.
Moldova is also cooperating with Ukraine, Romania, and donor organisations to modernise its rail infrastructure to help Ukraine increase its agricultural exports.
In recent days, Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean visited Kiev with several ministers, including Infrastructure Minister Andrei Spînu. Spînu said on his Telegram channel that he met with his Ukrainian counterpart to discuss the rehabilitation of railways, the construction of the Cosăuți-Yampil bridge, and other road infrastructure projects to better connect Moldova, Ukraine, and the European Union.
