Moldova secures 300 million cubic metres of natural gas
The Moldovan state-owned energy company Energocom has announced that it has purchased approximately 300 million cubic metres (m3) of natural gas in the period from June to July 2023.

Part of the gas is intended for current consumption, while the rest has been stored in underground storage facilities in Romania and Ukraine for use in the 2023-2024 winter season.
The total cost of the purchases was over €116 million, with an average weighted price of €34.45/MWh, according to Energocom. This means that the average cost of purchasing, transporting, and storing the gas was nearly $425 per 1,000 m3.
Energocom says that all of the transactions were concluded with companies from Greece, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Switzerland.
The announcement comes as Moldova is working to secure its energy supply for the winter. In August, President Maia Sandu convened a meeting of the Supreme Security Council to discuss the country's energy security.
At the meeting, the government discussed measures to ensure the supply of natural gas and electricity in the coming months, as well as the progress of major energy investment projects and energy efficiency programs.
Sandu said that Moldova is strengthening its energy security and that the country's institutions will be able to provide citizens with electricity and heat in the next heating season, regardless of any scenario.
