Expert: Moldova can revitalise infrastructure with Ukraine grain transit
The transit of Ukrainian grain could be an opportunity for Moldova to develop its infrastructure, according to Andrei Curăraru, an expert in foreign policy. He said that carriers would generate more revenue and be able to connect with European infrastructure.
"The transit represents an immense opportunity for Moldova to revitalise its railway infrastructure and create new revenue and opportunities for carriers," Curăraru told the show "Paralela 47" on Radio Moldova. "This would allow them to truly connect to the Danube infrastructure. At the same time, the Danube Commission has announced that it is prepared to significantly improve transportation capacity on the Danube, and Moldova could become one of the access routes to ports on the river."
Curăraru also stressed that Moldova must help Ukraine transport its grain to prevent the suffocation of the Ukrainian economy.
In August, a Moldovan delegation led by Prime Minister Dorin Recean visited Kiev. The delegation agreed with the Ukrainian side to work together to identify the best mechanisms to facilitate the transit of grain to international markets.
