Odessa port evacuates second cargo ship

A second civilian cargo ship has left Ukraine's Odessa port, sailing through a temporary Black Sea corridor set up to evacuate ships anchored in Ukrainian ports during the full-scale invasion, BBC reports.

The Liberian-flagged ship, which had been anchored in Odessa since February 20, 2022, left the port on the morning of August 26. It returned later in the day but then resumed its journey to the port of Varna in Bulgaria.

The ship's departure comes after Russia suspended the Black Sea Grain Agreement, which had allowed for the safe passage of ships carrying grain exports from Ukraine. Russia has also warned that its naval forces would target ships using export hubs in the Black Sea.

Despite the risks, the second cargo ship's departure is a sign of defiance against Russian aggression. It is also an important step towards restoring freedom of navigation in the Black Sea.
