In a message on the occasion of Moldova's Independence Day, Mažeiks said that Moldova had made significant progress towards economic, social, and territorial independence. He added that the EU had been a reliable partner in supporting Moldova's decisions.

"We have a common future ahead of us, a European one. You deserve it. Happy Independence Day, Moldova!" the diplomat said.

Moldova is celebrating 32 years of independence. In 1991, with the collapse of the Soviet Union, the country, along with other Soviet republics, became free to choose its own future. Thirty-two years later, Moldova is a candidate country for EU membership and is determined to join the bloc by 2030.
