The UN General Assembly is scheduled to take place from September 18-26 in New York.

Presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale said in a statement that Tinubu has accepted the invitation, which was extended by U.S. Presidential Envoy and Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Molly Phee.

The two leaders are likely to discuss the situation in Niger, as Tinubu, who leads the regional ECOWAS bloc, is working with other West African heads of state to find a solution after a military junta seized power in Niger.

Tinubu, who has pledged to implement the most ambitious reforms in Nigeria in decades, has called for more American investment in his country and greater cooperation to defend democracy in West Africa, amid a growing wave of coups in the region.
