Expert: Ukraine's victory could weaken Russian influence in region
Politologist Cristian Pîrvulescu, speaking on the Moldova 1 public television show "In Context," said that Ukraine's victory over Russia could have a positive impact on the region, especially Moldova, Georgia, and Belarus.
Pîrvulescu also said that these processes do not have unanimous support in Europe, as Russia is trying to use some national governments to prevent Western support for Ukraine.
"If Ukraine wins, which means that Ukraine regains all of its territories, both Donbass and Crimea, Russia will be in a difficult situation, and then Moldova and Georgia can regain the territories that Russia controls in a different way because one is happening in Georgia, and the other is happening in the Transnistrian region," Pîrvulescu said. "As for Belarus, a weakening of Russian influence could lead to democratic pressures. It is likely that this war will continue for some time and everything depends on both what happens on the front and what happens with hybrid warfare."
Pîrvulescu also noted that Russia has shown that it is no longer a major power, but at most a regional power.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said in an interview that for him, as president, victory over Russia means much more. He would like a victory that would make it impossible to return to war. A victory that would bring stability to the region and contribute to the territorial reunification of Moldova and Georgia.
