Moldova's Justice Ministry creates liquidation committee for unconstitutional Shor Party
The Moldovan Justice Ministry has created a liquidation committee for the Shor Party, which was declared unconstitutional by the Constitutional Court. The order was published in the Official Gazette on Tuesday.
The committee is composed of seven members, including employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Fiscal Service, the Central Election Commission, two lawyers, and the vice-president of the Council of the Union of Authorised Administrators of Moldova.
Ion Popa and Olga Burea will serve as liquidators. They will be paid a monthly salary of 16,000 lei.
The committee's members will "ensure the organisation and conduct of meetings in periodic sessions to achieve the established objectives. Other persons may also be invited to the liquidation committee's meetings," the order states.
The Justice Ministry will provide all necessary support for the committee's work, the order also says.
The decree promulgating the law declaring the Shor Party unconstitutional was published in the Official Gazette on August 18. The law went into effect immediately, meaning that members of the Shor Party will be ineligible to run for office for a period of three to five years.
The Constitutional Court declared the Shor Party unconstitutional on June 19, following a request from the Moldovan government. The government accused the party of violating the rule of law and destabilizing the situation in Moldova through paid protests. The Shor Party called the Constitutional Court's decision "shameful and unprecedented."
In the wake of the Constitutional Court's decision, the party's leader, Ilan Shor, who was sentenced to 15 years in a fraud and money laundering case, announced that he had formed a new political bloc.
