Moldova expands list of border crossing points for petroleum imports
The Moldovan government has approved a bill that would expand the list of border crossing points for the import of petroleum products by road, rail, and sea.
Under the current law, petroleum products can only be imported by rail through the Ocnița, Cuciurgan, Etulia, Giurgiulești, and Ungheni border crossings, and by road through the Leușeni–Albița, Tudora–Starokazacie, Otaci–Mogilev–Podolski, and Pervomaisk–Cuciurgan border crossings.
The new bill would add the following border crossings to the list for road imports: Giurgiulești–Galați, Cahul–Oancea, Sculeni–Sculeni, Mirnoe–Tabaki, Vulcănești–Vinogradovka, and Giurgiulești–Reni. The Basarabeasca–Serpniovo-1 border crossing would be added for rail imports, and the Giurgiulești-Port border crossing would be added for sea imports.
The government says the expansion is necessary to decongest traffic at the existing border crossing points, which have been experiencing heavy volumes due to the war in Ukraine.
