Putin, Erdogan to meet in Sochi to discuss grain corridor
The Kremlin has confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will meet in Sochi on Monday, September 4, according to Sky News.
The meeting was announced by the Kremlin on Friday, with Erdogan travelling to Russia to meet Putin. The two leaders will discuss the grain corridor in the Black Sea. Erdogan is expected to try to convince his Russian counterpart to return to the agreement.
Another topic of discussion will be Syria. The Sochi meeting was scheduled a week before the UN summit. The two leaders were originally scheduled to meet in Turkey in August, but Putin was reportedly reluctant to leave Russia for fear of being arrested.
The agreement, which was brokered in part by Turkey and the United Nations, allowed Ukraine to ship grain through the Russian-controlled Black Sea without fear of being sunk.
