Romanian defence minister condemns Russian attacks on Ukraine
Romanian Defense Minister Angel Tîlvăr condemned Russian attacks on Ukraine in a message posted to Facebook on Sunday, saying that the Romanian Ministry of Defense had been monitoring the situation in the port of Reni in real time and that there had been no direct military threats against Romania.
"I strongly condemn the attacks against civilian targets and infrastructure in Ukraine by the Russian Federation," Tîlvăr said. "These attacks are unjustified and in profound contradiction with the rules of international humanitarian law. The structures of the Ministry of National Defense have monitored in real time the situation generated by the Russian attacks carried out with drones on the infrastructure of the port of Reni during the past night. At no time did the means of attack used by the Russian Federation generate direct military threats against the national territory or the territorial waters of Romania."
According to Tîlvăr, his ministry is continuing to implement vigilance measures in accordance with national and allied plans.
On the night of September 3, the Russian military attacked the south of the Odessa region with 25 Iranian-made Shahed attack drones. The port infrastructure on the Danube was also attacked, and 13,000 tons of grain were destroyed.
