Wizz Air to return to Moldova, other airlines in talks
Moldova's Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Andrei Spînu, told the show "360 Degrees" on Radio Moldova on Monday that low-cost airline Wizz Air is in talks to return to the country.
Spînu also said that the government is in talks with other airlines, including EasyJet and Ryanair, to operate flights to popular destinations.
"Some airlines have mobilised quickly and we have seen announcements sooner, while others are still in the process of analysis," Spînu said. "Last week, Air Baltic announced flights to Greece and Riga. We are continuing to talk to other airlines to ensure that citizens of our country, as well as those from the diaspora, can fly directly to Chisinau at a competitive price and in a comfortable manner, which means we need as many routes as possible. For example, Wizz Air, which used to fly from Chisinau, and we are in talks to bring the company back. EasyJet from the UK is also in talks. Talks with Ryanair have been going on for some time."
Spînu said that the government is not currently discussing a new concession of the Chisinau International Airport, but rather its modernization.
