Gagauz deputies block election of Executive Committee for sixth time
Gagauz deputies blocked the election of the Executive Committee of Gagauzia for the sixth time on Friday, questioning the legality of Eugenia Gutul's appointment as Bashkan and demanding the resignation of the chairman of the region's People's Assembly, Dmitry Constantinov.
The deputies claimed that they were presented with a new list of candidates, which was not examined in the relevant committees. They also questioned the legality of Gutul's appointment as Bashkan, saying that she did not meet the requirements for the position.
The People's Assembly committees are due to meet next week, after which the question of the composition of the Executive Committee will be discussed again at a plenary session of Gagauz deputies.
The first meeting of the People's Assembly took place on July 28. At that time, local elected representatives noted that some candidates proposed on the executive list were presented remotely, while they should have been physically present. The local deputies also noted that some of the candidates proposed by Evghenia Guțul did not know the Gagauz language, which is against the autonomy's regulations.
