CEC sets limits on electoral funding in Moldova

Chișinău, Moldova — The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has set limits on the amount of money that parties and candidates can spend on electoral campaigns in Moldova.

The CEC has set a limit of 50,000 lei for interest-free loans that can be granted to parties or electoral blocs. Independent candidates can take out loans of up to 10,000 lei.

The CEC has also set a coefficient of 23.9 lei per voter that can be transferred to the "Initiative Group Account" for independent candidates running for mayor or local councillor.

The general limit for the funds that can be transferred to the "Electoral Fund" and used by electoral candidates in each constituency is 66,274,579 lei.

The new rules are intended to ensure that electoral campaigns are conducted fairly and equitably. They will also help to prevent corruption and money laundering in the electoral process.
