Morocco earthquake: 296 killed, 153 injured
A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 struck central Morocco on Friday, killing at least 296 people and injuring at least 153, according to BBC.
The epicentre of the quake was located 71 kilometres southwest of Marrakech, at a depth of 18.5 kilometres. The quake was felt in the capital, Rabat, and in other parts of Morocco and Algeria.
The Moroccan government has warned of the possibility of aftershocks.
The quake was the most powerful to hit Morocco in decades. It caused widespread damage to buildings and infrastructure, including the collapse of several homes and businesses.
The Moroccan government has deployed emergency crews to the affected areas to provide assistance to victims.
