Russia announces the downing of two Ukrainian drones over the Belgorod region
Russia announced on Monday that it shot down two Ukrainian drones over the Belgorod region, on the border with Ukraine, without causing casualties, reports AFP.
"Active air defense systems destroyed two aerial drones over the territory of the Belgorod region" on Monday "around 01:20 Moscow time" (22:20 GMT Sunday), the Russian Defense Ministry wrote on Telegram.
"Our defense system worked in the Yakovlevsky urban district: two aerial drones were shot down. There are no victims," regional governor Viaceslav Gladkov said on Telegram, adding that debris from the devices fell on a road near a residential building. The Belgorod region is located in western Russia, bordering Kharkiv on the Ukrainian coast.
Ukrainian drone attacks against Russian cities near Ukraine, in the annexed peninsula of Crimea or in the capital Moscow have increased in recent months amid a counter-offensive by Kiev launched in early June.
